FHS Graduate Named Judge Advocate General of US Air Force

harding_rc.pngOn 2 February 2010, University of Arkansas graduate Lieutenant General Richard C. Harding was confirmed by the United States Senate as the 16th Judge Advocate General of the United States Air Force.
 
On 15 December 2009, the President of the United States nominated then-Brigadier General Richard Harding to serve as The 16th Judge Advocate General (TJAG) of the United States Air Force.  On the same day as the announcement, the President submitted Brigadier General Harding's nomination to the Senate for confirmation.  The nomination was referred to the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) for consideration.  On 2 February 2010, SASC endorsed Brigadier General Harding's nomination and forwarded it to the United States Senate.  That evening, the Senate voted to confirm his nomination.
 
A formal promotion and investiture ceremony will be held at Bolling AFB, DC, on 23 February 2010.
 
As The Judge Advocate General of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Harding serves as the Legal Adviser to the Secretary of the Air Force and all officers and agencies of the Department of the Air Force. He directs all judge advocates in the performance of their duties and is responsible for the professional oversight of more than 2,200 judge advocates, 350 civilian attorneys, 1,400 enlisted paralegals and 500 civilians in the Total Force Judge Advocate General's Corps worldwide. He oversees military justice, operational and international law, and civil law functions at every level of command.
 
Lieutenant General Harding is a Fayetteville High School and an University of Arkansas graduate.  He graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1971, from the University of Arkansas in 1975, and from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1979.  He is the nephew of Arthur Harding, president of the University of Arkansas from 1941 to 1947.
 
Lieutenant General Harding and his wife reside at Bolling AFB, DC.  They have two children and one granddaughter.
