Project Graduation Needs Your Help

graduate.pngEach year for the past 23 years, Fayetteville High School seniors have celebrated at *Project Graduation*, an all-night celebration which honors the students for their accomplishment.  I was honored to be one of the organizers for the first event for the Class of 1987, which was the pilot program for Project Graduation in Arkansas when we became the 7th state to join the ranks of  the states hosting the celebrations.  I have continued to be involved, because I feel that this is the one event that has the potential to touch the lives of every student who graduates from Fayetteville High School   All of the teachers, parents, and community members who work and contribute to this event are VOLUNTEERS ........ even me.

This year's event will be held after graduation on May 20, 2010 at the *HPER* Building at the U of A.  There are many events scheduled during the evening including a photo booth, games, swimming, athletic competitions, movies, karaoke, music, and food.  As you can imagine, the costs of providing this event for the seniors is constantly increasing as the number of graduating seniors increases each year.  In the past we have tried to provide a door prize for every student ranging from a few really large items to gift certificates worth at least $10-15.

In order to provide for this event, we rely heavily on donations from the local businesses, community members, and families of our students.  When we initially organized Project Graduation, we did tremendous fund raisers.  Many people do not realize or have forgotten that Project Graduation was the first group to charge for parking during the Razorback football games and other athletic events.  This was a tremendous factor in the success of our early events.

For the past several years, we have had to rely only on the wonderful corporate sponsorship from industries such as Hiland Dairy and Tyson Foods, who have participated every year and many other local business supporters.  The FHS PTSO is another strong financial supporter of the event.  Many of the new businesses within our community have also joined in and assisted us over the years.  This year, because of the economy, I'm a little worried about being able to keep the event at the level FHS graduates deserve.

We are hoping that you will be able to assist us with this extremely worthwhile event to keep our seniors in a safe environment as they celebrate one of the monumental milestones of their lives.  If you are able to donate, please make all checks payable to FHS Project Graduation.  Your  tax-deductible donations may be mailed to :
