John-Anderson.pngStudents in the FHS-TV program had the opportunity to visit via Skype with ESPN SportsCenter anchor John Anderson on Thursday, October 7 during a class period. The visit was arranged by Brett Austin, formerly the news director of KHOG-TV and now coordinating producer for SportsCenter for ESPN.

Here are some comments from the students and Peggy James, their Broadcasting teacher and the faculty sponsor of FHS-TV after their visit with Anderson.

Mary Kate Harrison: "It was great to get insider information from someone inside the business."

Aundrea Sheeler: "Talking with a professional in the area where I want to work in the future was so helpful."

Jason Christy: "John Anderson gave us a lot of information that we would not have received otherwise. This was an opportunity to talk to someone that I would never get a chance to meet."

Jacob Pinter: "As a long time fan of John Anderson and SportsCenter, it was exciting to be able to talk to him."

Alyssa Whitlock: "It was a fun educational experience."

Will Maddox: "Skype knocked my socks off.

Peggy James: "Using SKYPE in my classroom was a lot of fun. Being able to connect with a professional from ESPN was not only exciting it was very helpful to the kids. Each student had prepared a question and he thoughtfully responded. I want to use this a lot more to reach out to professionals in the broadcasting field. He reiterated so many things we talk about daily, and this time my students believed them!"

Many thanks to ESPN for their great opportunity for our students!
