Representatives from 66 Federal Credit Union and OAK Education Foundation presented a $20,000 check to the Fayetteville Public Education Foundation to begin the program in the Fayetteville Public Schools.

Endorsed by the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce and Fayetteville Public Schools, "The Leader in Me" program will be implemented at Washington Elementary School during the 2011 -2012 academic year under the leadership of Principal Ashley Garcia.

"The Leader in Me" program helps develop the essential life skills and characteristics students need in order to thrive in the 21st century and is based on Dr. Stephen R. Covey's bestselling book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.  Key Principles such as "Be Proactive", "Put First Things First" and "Think Win-Win" are integrated into the school's core curriculum.  Students benefit by improved academic achievements and gain in self confidence.
