Book Hogs: Read to Win!

Posted by Alan on January 31, 2011 10:51 AM | Filed in News |

37206 BookHogs_proof2.pngAT&T and the University of Arkansas Athletic Department are proud to present a special Razorback Reading Program called "Book Hogs - Read to Win". That's right! You will have the opportunity to win some great prizes and meet Razorback athletes--maybe even Big Red himself!

Here's how it works. You must do an average of 90 minutes of independent reading (listening for kindergarten students) each week for a total of 360 minutes. If you get behind one week, you can make it up by reading more the next week. Each day that you read, write the number of minutes you read on the calendar you will receive at school. Get your parent or guardian to initial each day's amount. Once you reach the goal of 360 total minutes, your teacher will list you as an official Book Hogs Member and you will receive a prize!

The top-performing class from your school will win a field trip to Bud Walton Arena to celebrate their success with Razorback athletes. Your school has the option of drawing for the 30 students who will attend. Your playbook must be turned in by March 2.

Posted by Alan on January 18, 2011 8:43 AM | (Not Filed) |

sick_in_bed.pngFayetteville High School is enforcing the school's policy on notification by parents to excuse an absence. Here is the policy:

Parents must notify the attendance office in writing or by phone call within 3 school days in order to excuse an absence. If a student has seen a doctor or other professional, those documents must be received within 3 school days.
The teachers will be re-enforcing the policy with the students in their classes and it will also be reiterated through the daily announcements. It is printed in the student handbook (page 4) that students took home, and it is also available on-line.  When students are absent 2 days or more letters go out and the information is printed on those as well.

This policy can affect exemptions from finals, as well as course credits. Please make sure to notify the FHS office in the event of ANY absence from school.
