Samantha Maroon.pngSamantha Maroon, a 2012 GED graduate of Fayetteville Adult & Community Education, was recently awarded the Luther H. Black Scholarship. Only one scholarship is given each year in Arkansas to an Arkansas High School Diploma (GE)D graduate who demonstrates outstanding leadership, citizenship, and professional promise.

Recipients are awarded $1000 per year and can renew the scholarship for up to four years to help with costs of higher education.

Samantha attended Fayetteville Adult Education and was an outstanding commencement speaker at the GED Graduation Ceremony in May 2012. She is in her second year of academic studies at Northwest Arkansas Community College working towards a degree in Education.

In addition, Samantha was recently invited to join the NWACC chapter of the National Society in Leadership and Success. She plans to finish her degree at the University of Arkansas.

The Luther H. Black Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Dr. Luther Black for his twenty-two years of service and dedication as Manager of Adult Education for the state Education Department. Under his guidance, the Adult Education program grew from only one office to an extensive, quality program with an office in almost every county in Arkansas.

The Fayetteville Adult and Community Education Center is an official testing center for the GED Tests, having met the requirements of the American Council of Education and the State of Arkansas GED Administrator.

The Fayetteville Center is open Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. All testing is free until 2014 when the GED test will change to an online format.
