Financial Aid Information Meeting at FHS

Financial-Aid101.pngThere will be a financial aid informational meeting at 6:00 pm. on Monday May 26 in the Performing Arts Center at Fayetteville High School.  Students and parents are encouraged to attend to get more information about financial aid opportunities available for life after high school.

FHS Baseball Team Seeks Repeat State Championship

bulldog_baseball.pngThe FHS Baseball team will seek its second consecutive (and 8th overall) state baseball championship when the Bulldogs play Bryant High School on Friday, May 23 at 4:30 pm at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville. Come out and support the Purple Dawgs!

Free Lunch This Summer for Kids 18 and Younger

student-lunch.pngAll kids age 18 and younger can have lunch for free every weekday this summer at Holt Middle School. No fee--it's free! No application, and no registration. Just come hungry!

Lunch is served Monday thru Friday from 11 am to 1 pm. The lunches will be available beginning Wednesday, June 11 and ending Friday, August 2. No meals will be served July 3 or 4.

Holt Middle School is located at 2365 North Rupple Road.

Traditional Calendar Schools Open on Memorial Day

Make-Up_Day.pngAll FPS schools on the traditional calendar will be open for classes on Memorial Day (Monday, May 26) to make up the last of our snow days. Food service will be provided, and the buses will run. The only change is the dismissal time, which will be ONE HOUR EARLIER than the normal dismissal times. Schools will begin at their normal start times.

The last day of classes for schools on the traditional calendar is Friday, June 6.

FPS Health and Wellness Clinic Summer Schedule

clinic.pngThe last day for patients at the Fayetteville Public Schools Health & Wellness Clinic will be Friday, June 27. The clinic will re-open on August 4. The clinic is located at The Owl Creek School at 375 N. Rupple Road. Click here for more information on the clinic.

School Choice Information for 2014-15 School Year

Act 1227 of 2013 allows parents to apply for admission for their child to attend a school in any district beyond the one in which the parent resides. Any parent residing outside the Fayetteville School District that desires to send their child to the Fayetteville School District beginning with the 2014-15 school year may obtain an application in the superintendent's office located at 1000 Bulldog Blvd.

If a student seeks to attend a school in a non-resident district for the 2014-15 school year, the student's parent must submit an application to the non-resident district with a copy to the resident district. The application must be submitted on the form approved by the Arkansas Department of Education. The application must be postmarked no later than June 1, 2014.

Applications do not have to be resubmitted for students currently attending Fayetteville School District schools under the School Choice Act.

Two FHS Seniors Named National Merit Scholarship Winners

Corbell_Madeleine-Atimes.pngFinney_Spencer-5.pngCongrats to FHS seniors Spencer Finney and Madeleine Corbell for being named as two of the 22 National Merit Scholarship winners in Arkansas for 2014! Merit Scholars are judged to have the "strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies," according to the news release from the National Merit Scholarship program.

McNair Principal Honored with Second Award from AAMLE

Hayward 3.pngMcNair Middle School principal Michelle Hayward received the Charles A. Green Administrator That Makes a Difference Award from the Arkansas Association of Middle Level Education at the conclusion of their annual conference yesterday in Hot Springs. Congratulations!

Ramay Pancake Breakfast to Benefit Scholarship Funds

pancaked.jpgThe Ramay Student Council will host a pancake breakfast at Powerhouse Grill on Saturday, May 17 from 7-10 am.  Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door.  All proceeds go to the Solomon Simpson and Joshua Moore Memorial Scholarship funds.

The 7th Annual Woodland JHS Student Council and Yearbook Pancake Breakfast fundraiser is Saturday, May 31 at Powerhouse Seafood restaurant in Fayetteville from 8-10 am. McNair Principal Wins Top Middle Level Education Award

Hayward2014.pngCongrats to McNair Middle School principal Michelle Hayward for being awarded the Roderick McDavis Middle Level Education Leadership award during the 25th Anniversary Silver Gala of the Arkansas Association of Middle Level Education! Only five other Arkansans have been awarded this top recognition for middle level education.

FPS Students Win Awards in Stamp Out Smoking Video Contest

sos-adh-logo.pngFHS and Ramay Jr. High students won awards at the 2014 Big Pitch Film Festival on May 2 at the Heifer Village in Little Rock. The event is sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Health and Stamp Out Smoking.

FHS students won the Best Editing award, and Ramay students won the Rookie of the Year award. Click here to see the FHS video, and click here to see the Ramay video.

2014-15 Teen Leadership Application Now Available

TLX_2011.pngApplications are now available for the 2014-15 Teen Leadership Xperience. Now in its 15th year, TLX is a leadership program for high school juniors that is sponsored by the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce.

Connotations Wins Another National Award

Connotations2013.pngConnotations, the award-winning student literary magazine at Fayetteville High School, has added yet another national award to its trophy case. The National Scholastic Press Association has named the five winners of the Pacemaker Award in the magazine division, and the 2013 edition of Connotations is among the winners!

Levi Huang and Marlee Stark served as the editors-in-chief of the 2013 Connotations. Becky Cox is the faculty advisor.


Signing Party for Student Literary Magazine

Connotations2014.pngThe annual signing party for Connotations, the FHS award-winning student literary magazine, will be Thursday, May 8 from 5:30-7:30 in the Fayetteville High School Library.  Please join us for a reading with beverages and snacks.  Vol. 31 will be on sale for $15, and copies from last year will also be on sale. 

Connotations, volume 30 was just awarded a Pacemaker Award from the National Scholastic Press Association as one of the top five student literary magazines in the nation.
